Why This Work Matters

Over time, I have noticed that when difficult or sensitive topics arise, responses across classroooms can look very different. Some teachers address them directly. Others redirect. Some avoid them altogether.

Students notice that difference.

For multilingual learners especially, that inconsistency can shape how safe they feel participating, asking questions, or even speaking their home language. When we do not have a shared approach, we unintentionally send mixed messages about belonging.

Who This is For

Connection to My Practice

This project builds on my experience teaching Spanish and working with English learners, along with my graduate work focused on culturally and linguistically responsive instruction. It reflects a shift in my own thinking - from focusing only on classroom strategies to considering how school-wide systems shape student experience.
